  3. Easiest Language to Learn – What Is It?

    What’s the easiest language to learn? This is a question I asked myself for months. I studied French for three years in high school, but never managed to master the language. After years of not using it, I’ve pretty much forgotten everything I spent three long years trying to memorize. After dabbling with a few other languages I decided there had to be an easier way. I conducted a thorough investigation into how people learn new languages, and then set about trying to figure out what the easiest language to learn might be and how best to learn it.

    Why I Decided On Spanish

    After much study, I decided to try learning Spanish. There are several major reasons why Spanish is a lot easier for English speakers to learn than any other language.

    1. Spanish contains a lot of English cognates. This means words that are pretty much the same in their meaning and spelling in Spanish as they are in English. For example, ‘information’ in English is ‘informacion’ in Spanish. This makes building you Spanish vocabulary pretty easy. This is because English and Spanish originate from the same language roots, way back in ancient Europe.
    2. Learning to say words correctly in Spanish is a lot easier than in most languages – actually, Spanish pronunciation makes even more sense than English pronunciation a lot of the time! That’s because every letter in Spanish has a distinct sound (similar to English sounds) and there are very few silent letters. In other words, you say a word out loud pretty much how it looks on paper.
    3. The grammar rules in Spanish are also pretty similar to English. In other languages, the grammar rules mean that words come in an order that seems ‘weird’ to an English speaker. This isn’t the case with Spanish – for the most part, the words go in the same order as they would in an English sentence, so your brain doesn’t have to try to rearrange them as you read or listen to someone speak.
